Nexus is all about connections. The word comes from nectere, a Latin verb meaning "to bind."
The Nexus Quartet is an award winning string quartet made up of four very talented musicians. Specializing in classical and popular music, we cater to all events in search of that extra touch of elegance, whether that be a wedding or a corporate function.

Stephanie Tam
cellist
Stephanie started playing the cello at the young age of 6 and piano at 3. At 14 years of age, Stephanie was admitted to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Rising Stars Program where she studied under Susan Blake and enjoyed performing regularly as a soloist, with her string quartet and the Australian Youth Orchestra. In 2017, she graduated from Abbotsleigh, achieving First in the State of NSW in both Music 2 and Music Extension subjects. Now in her final year of medical school, Stephanie still enjoys playing in numerous ensembles, including Corpus Medicorum, and the Monash Medical Orchestra.

Xenia Zubenko
Violinist
Xenia has been studying violin from the age of 7 years old and piano at the age of 5. Since then, Xenia has played violin at a national and international level, participating in competitions such as Virtuosity. She was also the youngest 1st principal violinist with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, and has since then played and led many ensembles, with her most recent concertmaster endeavours with the Australasian Orchestra and the Monash Medical Orchestra.

Matthew Wu
violist
Matthew started playing the viola at the age of 8 and piano at 5. Completing AMEB LMusA with distinction in both viola and piano, Matthew studied under Fintan Murphy and Glenn Riddle. As a prize winner in over 100 competitions, he has performed concertos with orchestra and broadcast on live radio. Now in his second year of medical school, Matthew
enjoys performing in various ensembles such as the Australian Youth Orchestra, Corpus Medicorum and the Monash Medical Orchestra.

Brendan Chong
violinist
A violinist and music enthusiast, Brendan Chong has been a part of, and led, various string and symphonic orchestras as well as chamber ensemble projects, ranging from the Australian Youth Orchestra to the Melbourne String Ensemble. As a current medical student, Brendan is a member of the Monash Medical Orchestra, and the Melbourne-based doctor’s orchestra, Corpus Medicorum. Even with his endeavours outside of music, Brendan maintains his love for the musical arts, and welcomes any opportunity to play with others on their own musical journey. Despite his extensive classical training, Brendan has also pursued further musical interests in modern guitar, recording, and music production. In addition, he loves to dabble in further modern genres, such as pop, rock, jazz, R&B, and other foreign language styles.
